Further information – Frequently Asked Questions

Practice results – key question fact sheets.

Further information:

Can everybody see the fact sheets?

Yes, the pages are on the GP Patient Survey website. We have not password-protected access to the website because all of the information is publicly available. However, we have not provided a link to this page directly from the homepage of the GP Patient Survey website.

Do we have to send these to practices? Why don’t you send them directly?

We strongly recommend that you send them to practices. We hope that they will be of benefit both to them and to PCTs as commissioners of services.

Why have you chosen this particular selection of indicators?
Naturally, with such a large survey we have had to take some decisions on which indicators to include. The indicators reflect the key access questions that have been included in previous surveys and a selection of new areas that cover the wider practice environment.

How did you calculate the indicators showing best performance and areas for improvement?

These two pages show how a practice has performed in relation to the PCT average, highlighting the three questions that are furthest from the average at both ends of the scale. Therefore, the higher the number in the column indicating “practice-PCT difference”, the better the performance. This means that if a practice has performed better than the PCT average for every question, the “areas for improvement” will highlight the questions which are closest to – but still above – the PCT average. Conversely, if the practice has performed lower than the PCT average on every question, the questions on the page “Where your practice has performed well” will be those closest to – but still below – the PCT average. Critically, this does not look at whether a practice has scored 90% on X vs 25% on X, as the questions and answers are not directly comparable.

There is no fact sheet for X practice.
All practices that participated in the survey should have a PDF document of the results available. If a practice has taken part and there is no presentation available, please contact Ipsos MORI at gpps@ipsos.com.
